That's a phrase we often hear in Malawi. Katundu is the Chichewa word for baggage or luggage. More often used for travelers carrying things. We usually bring more katundu on a two week trip than most Malawians even own. However in this blog it's going to mean overall "stuff."
We had a very blessed Christmas. Taylor especially received some exciting gifts. His favorites include a Thomas the Train set, Pirate ships, microphone and several board games. His big gift was a soccer goal from Santa. Don't know how Santa got that thing down the chimney. :) One of the most used so far has been a very cheap Mickey Mouse camera. It clicks and sometimes sounds like the paparazzi lives here.
Lilly got lots of cute clothes, stuffed animals, a new crib mobile, Cabbage Patch doll and a pig that sings. :)
Wes and I got some nice new clothes and my favorite gift...a date night including free babysitting. :)
So now I've begun the process of putting all that new katundu in it's place. I've tried to go through the old toys and clean out, but some things I've gotten attached to. I see Taylor enjoy them so much I have a hard time getting rid of it. Wes however is much better at removing things. Maybe because he doesn't see Taylor use it as much as I do? I know all this stuff can't go with us to Heaven and I want to teach Taylor and Lilly that too. So out with the old katundu and in with the new...with the understanding that it's just katundu and not our true treasure.
