I love how God uses his people to work together in so many ways. I've always loved the church. Not the building. The people. I've really grown to love it more these days. I have a better understanding that if we (the people) are the temple of God's spirit and allow him to work in our lives He will do amazing things through us. He amazes me when he brings just the right person into a situation at just the right time.
For example...to raise money for our short term mission teams this year we decided to try holding a consignment sale. These are very popular in our area and we weren't sure if we'd do well seeing as there are several more established sales around.
We spent 8 days collecting, sorting and displaying thousands of items in our gym at church. We advertised in every free way we could and hoped for the best. We allowed more than just kid stuff. There was furniture of all kinds and lots of home decor. The deals were awesome! It was a lot of work organizing things but we made $4000 for our mission teams!
As the week progressed I saw how I was so inadequate to do this big a task on my own. I knew that to begin with but it became even more clear as I got deeper into it. We needed hanging racks desperately. Just as we were learning that our only source for those had a problem someone I never expected to have display racks called up offering some. Such a blessing.
Then as I was totally not sure how to display things someone else who had a great eye for that showed up and took over. The best greeters manned the doors and those good with numbers took over the checkout line. The last day I started to panic as I had just a few hours to get checks back to the consignors. Well I'm not too familiar with Excel or dealing with that much money. However God supplied someone who knew just how to use that computer program at just the right time. They came in the office with out any knowledge I needed help and I found out they knew how to use the program and there you have it. Only God could have done that knowing just what I needed and when!
I learned a lot about putting on something like that and next year things will be better. Until then I still like watching how God moves his people to work together for the benefit of His kingdom. I have so many other examples running through my mind.
Thank you God for numbering the hairs on my head, counting me more valuable than a sparrow, clothing me better than the lilies of the field, knowing everything I need and providing the people to encourage me in your work.
