Surgery Part 2

We are so thankful for a sucessful surgery for Lilly today. We have
been tremendously blessed by your prayers and encouragement.

Lilly went back for heart surgery about 8 AM and was done about 10:30. Dr. Kirkland performed the surgery. He is an amazing and highly respected
surgeon. Lilly had a narrowing in her aorta that restricted blood
flow to the lower half of her body. They made a small 1 inch incision
between her ribs on her left side. Once they got inside they discovered
the problem was a little more complicated. They had to take her
subclavean artery and attach it to the aorta to allow for more blood
flow. However, all went well and she is expected to have a smooth
recovery.

We got to see her for a few minutes about 1 PM. She is
now in the cardiac intensive care unit. I don't know what was harder...passing her off to the nurses to go into surgery or seeing her completely sedated and on a breathing machine. She was swollen, as you would expect heart patients to be, but it's not too bad and overall her little body isn't as bad as I thought it would. I worked myself up for the worst.

Our visiting hours with her are now limited to 4 times a day for a few days. After she is off the breathing machine (estimated between 12 and 24 hours after surgery)
they will begin to try to bottle feed her again. Since last Thursday she has only had IV nutrition, but fortunately has gained weight on it. In a couple of days we should be back in the RNICU and then in a private room our last day or two here.

We had a waiting room FULL of people today and are thankful for all the love and concern. We'll continue to stay with Kristen & Eileen Zeanah here in Birmingham. Lots of you have asked about Taylor. He is with us here and enjoying time playing with Parrish and some of his cousins that live nearby. He has gotten to see Lilly several times this week and is excited about being a big brother. He has carried around her little pink blanket all week talking about her. So far the only melt down we had was the other night when Taylor wanted to go home to "his bed".

I knew Wes back in high school through the youth group at Landmark. Please know I am praying for your precious Lilly and your entire family as you go through this difficult time.

I don't blame Taylor at all. I prefer my bed too! I can't imagine what his little mind is thinking? I wonder if he thinks all new baby sisters go through this? Thankfully God blessed you with a creative little boy--maybe you can encourage him to makeup songs about Lily and her hospital adventure. Maybe it will help him pass the time. So glad to hear that things went well yesterday. Still praying here!

Love,
