Room With a View

We have finally made it to a room of our own! Lilly was moved out of CICU about noon today to a room of her very own. One of us has to be with her all the time now. It's like "real" parenting. I'm a little nervous too since she is still hooked up to some monitors. We do have nurses come to check on us every so often and they are stationed just across the hall, but it's still a little scary having her to our self.

We are very glad to be here though. It's our 3rd building to occupy at UAB. Lilly has made the rounds and so far all the nurses she encounters tell us she is very good. :) The floor we are on now is the kids area. I have seen more than I ever wanted to see this week. In the RNICU there were so many sick babies. Some had been there for months and still were tiny. Then we were in the CICU where everyone was a cardiac patient and Lilly was next to a 2 month old girl and a few older kids. That is sad because the visitation is so restricted I felt sorry for the older kids missing their moms.

Now we are surrounded by more older kids. I'm sure they are all here for different reasons. I have seen them "playing" in the halls on special riding toys with IVs attached. There is a playroom down the hall and currently there is popcorn popping. They try to make it "fun" for everyone. I am just very grateful that Lilly won't remember any of this and hopefully there won't be any trauma about going to doctors.

Taylor was up here with us some last night and on the way home he was singing. He was singing something about "it's OK to be afraid. It's OK to go to the hospital." I asked him who sang that and he just said he did. I thought he might have gotten some of it from a cartoon. He sang it all the way home like it was his own little mantra. He will get to come to this room tonight and hopefully see Lilly more as a regular baby. They have social workers who help with explaining things to siblings so they
won't be scared.

Here is a picture of Lilly's new "crib". :)

Yeah! SO glad she is all yours! You know, I don't think that I have ever seen Taylor when he wasn't singing! Children often deal with fears, emotions, or stressful situations by play acting, drawing, or in Taylor's case, singing about it. Encourage him to express his feelings--better out than in! Singing is obviously a joy to him and by singing about this experience, he probably feels better. SING ON LITTLE MAN!

Still Praying,

Amanda, Congrats on having Miss Lilly in your arms for more than fleeting minute :) I know you are so happy. I like the picture of Wes holding her on this blog, it is a nice photo of him just sitting there... with his little girl in his arms. When heleena saw noah in his "new crib" she said, "mama why is noah in that cage??" Kids have a funny way of dealing with things.. Taylor is dealing through song :) I will continue to pray for your family and will continue to follow the progress on your site. God Bless you all!

I'm a friend of Lisa W. and will add Lilly to our prayer list. God is so awesome in how faithful He's been already.

I read through a couple of your older posts and chuckled at your comment about spelling her name Lillie if you had your way. I, too, have a daughter (she's 6) named Lillian and my husband gave in and let me spell it Lillie instead of Lilly.
