Old School vs Contemporary

In an effort to find a name for our baby I've discovered that Wes is not into the "older" names.  I tried to explain that some of these names were very popular now (ex: Emma, Olivia, Ella, Ava etc).  He said he didn't want her to sound like a grandmother.  However the 3 names he mentioned to me were either taken already or names of people I knew from high school.  I just couldn't go there.

We do typically like more contemporary things (in decorating, some music etc) but this name thing has been so hard.  A really contemporary name for a girl Wes didn't like at all.  (you know like Apple or something :)

Now I'm a little bit modern and a little bit old school.  I have a fondness for old movies (especially Disney) and the little bit of country music I ever liked was Patsy Cline.  Wes made fun of what Taylor and I have been listening to in the car lately.  I have this CD of Disney songs I bought about the time CD's became the norm.  It has lots of great old Disney movie songs like Mary Poppins, Bednobs and Broomsticks, Winnie the Pooh and Parent Trap (with Haley Mills).  Well I pulled this CD out because I was extremely tired of hearing some other stuff we have for Taylor.  Now Taylor loves the Disney stuff and Wes said I was giving him a terrible choice of music to hear.

I'm thinking "So what if he doesn't know every Wiggles song.  It's the classics that will stand the test of time."  Wes thinks "He'll be labeled a dork for even knowing these cheesy songs."  I will say that his current favorite was not one I would have chosen for him to fall in love with, but it's kinda funny to hear him singing it.  If I knew how to post music I'd let you hear it.  Thankfully he's starting to like all of the songs so I don't have to repeat the same one over and over.

Anyway Taylor will be well rounded if we have any influence.  He's familiar with more old school Disney movies than most, but he also recognizes current event characters like Barak Obama and Michael Phelps.  He also gets very excited when he sees them on magazines and TV.  Wonder if that means he'll end up being a singing politician that can really swim!
